Did you have time to check out the cute chalkboard label mason jars? We cannot wait to use them on our upcoming beach trip! Here's another project we did using Expressions Vinyl. This time we used the Etched Glass Vinyl to personalize coffee mugs.

Build Your Own Jewelry Display Board
My Mom has been asking me for several months to make her a jewelry board, similar to the one I made last year. The one I made last year used a framed corkboard and I just added decorative knobs. This time around I wanted to DIY the entire thing. Julia and I won an awesome set of Ryobi Power Tools at the Haven Blog Conference last year and I am always looking for a good reason to use them!

Valentine's Day Dishtowel | Pottery Barn Inspired
We "love" a good knock off project, so today we are sharing with you a Valentine's Day dishtowel. This project was inspired by Pottery Barn's "LOVE" dish towel. I tweaked the colors and did red wording instead of black to make it more specific to Valentine's Day.

Dollar Store Challenge | Glass Candlestick
Today we have an awesome project to share with you! We are joining Everyday Home in The Great Dollar Store Challenge. The 4th Thursday of each month we will share with you a different project using Dollar Store items. For this month's challenge we used glass candlesticks.
We created a Picture Frame and Message Board for The Dollar Store Challenge. This is one of our favorite crafts! It was so easy and super affordable...our kind of project.

Year in Review
Another awesome year has flown by!! Thank you to all of our readers who continue to support us and our blog! When we started Southern Color our goal was to inspire others and to give them the confidence to DIY. We hope you find our tutorials easy to follow and eventually try them out.
We were pretty busy in 2013 so we want to take some time to revisit all of the projects we completed.

Holiday Painted Wood Signs & Gifts
A few weeks ago we posted this picture on Pinterest of our wood signs being sold at a local Christmas gift mart. We had no clue it would be pinned over 400 times ~ thanks for the love! So we figured it was finally time to share with y'all how we made all of these signs :)

Holiday Inspiration - Wood Signs & Burlap Pillows
The Christmas season has officially begun! We hope y'all had a terrific Thanksgiving with family and friends, but since it's already December we've got to start talking about Holiday projects...there are only 23 days until Christmas!
Some of our best holiday inspiration comes from catalogues. We love flipping through the pages of Pottery Barn for holiday décor ideas. Unfortunately, our budgets aren't limitless, so some of the more expensive items must be DIY'ed!

Baby Onesie with Velcro Bowties
There must be something in the water because it seems like everyone is having babies right now!!!! Between my friends & family and the BF's friends, we've known at least 10 ppl in the last year to get pregnant & have babies. It's so easy to pick something off the registry or get them a gift card, but I wanted to personalize a gift. (Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of times I go straight to Target & just pick up something from the registry, quick & easy!)
Ever since I made my nephew a bowtie last year for his Mom & Dad's wedding, I have been obsessed with bowties. They always look so cute & polished. So I decided to turn the Puppy Bowtie into the Baby Bowtie!
I bought a pack of Gerber onesies from Target and used leftover fabric & velcro. I picked fun fabrics and holiday specific fabrics: purple gingham, baby blue plaid, Christmas tartan, green ducks, etc.
Use my Bowtie tutorial here. Once you are complete with all your bowties, add a patch of velcro on the back. Then add another velcro piece to the onesie. For each baby I did 2 onesies and 5 bowties.
Isn't this just the sweetest thing you've ever seen!!
To keep things organized for the new Mom, I also made a carrying case for all the bowties. It's a simple pocket clutch, kind of like Julia's.
It's basically a 20 x 10 inch rectagle. Fold into thirds, this creates a pocket on the bottom and flap to close with. Add velcro to keep the case closed.
Here are some more Baby Shower gift ideas:
Baby Andrew's shower was the other weekend. He is already one lucky guy and received tons of great gifts, including several homemade items; a hand-knitted koala bear, personalized GaTech onesies, a hand-crocheted baby blanket that was his fathers, and the velcro bowtie onesies.
Do you like giving your friends homemade gifts or store bought gifts?

DIY Boyfriend Bouquet
Morning everyone! How was your weekend!
Julia and I attended a fun wine tasting event on Friday for an up & coming business, but you'll have to check back in a few weeks for an update. The company doesn't go "live" until mid March. We spent a decent amount of time working on the #GuestroomMakeoever creating cornice boards, touching up paint, installing some furniture - it finally is beginning to look like a a Guestroom!! I also found some time to meet up with friends on Saturday for dinner at TnT, the best mexican restaurant ever!
------------------------------ Time for a craft --------------------------------------
The other week was Valentine's, the most loving & romantic day on earth ;) The BF's work schedule has been pretty hectic lately so our plans were kind of altered last minute. Our night was spent watching our favorite shows and eating our favorite pizza, and I was glad to have my Valentine with me. He makes doing the most mundane things seem so fun!
I'm a lucky girl and the BF spoils me with pretty flowers. I wanted to give him something that would be just as pretty, a DIY Boyfriend Bouquet!
To make you will need:
wooden skewers
vase
tape
yarn/ribbon
candy
cuties
power bars
Fill your vase with cuties and reese's (the BF's favorite). Tape power bars on to the wooden skewers. Tie yarn around the power bar where the tape went. Arrange your bars in the vase.
I think he really enjoyed coming home on Valentine's Day to be surprised by his pretty arrangement :) I also had a puzzle made from a picture I took on our Chicago trip. Over Christmas we both really enjoyed putting together a puzzle, so I thought it would be the perfect gift for him. And it's personalized because it's from one of our trips :)

Holiday Craft Ideas
I have seriously been confused all week, I woke up this morning thinking it was Friday??!?! Clearly I am ready for Christmas break! This year, it works out that I can be out of the office for 12 straight days with only taking 3 days off from work, love it! Those 12 days will most likely be spent with family, crafting, going on walks with my niece and lots of relaxation :)
Looking for a last minute Holiday Craft to make?

DIY Bridal Glitter Cardigan
Happy Monday!
How was the weekend?
Saturday, the BF and I went to the Greensboro, GA Festival of Trees and Holiday Craft show. His Aunt had a booth of her crafts: holiday arrangements, small Christmas trees and jewelry boards. It was fun looking at all the decorated Christmas tress and getting inspiration for mine. Sunday, Julia and I crafted - stay tuned for those projects; but they have to do with the Christmas Pinterest Party we are hosting in a few weeks :)
I hope its a short week for everyone! I'm just working 2 days this week. On Wednesday, the family and I are visiting my Grandparents to celebrate an early Thanksgiving. And on Thursday we're doing dinner at my parent's house, the BF and his parents will be there!
Remember a few weekends ago when we went wine tasting for my friends Bachelerotte Party? Well, here's the tutorial for the Bridal cardigan I made her:
What you'll need:
Foam Brush
Tape
Center the stencil where you want it, I did mine a little lower so that her hair wouldn't cover up the wording. Tape down the stencil so that it doesn't move around on you.
Dab on a light/medium coat of paint. The glitter paint dries much darker than how it goes on, I only did one coat.
Don't rush through the stencil process, you might mess up like me! Part of the "H" stencil came up when I was dabbing on the paint. I went ahead and finished the entire stencil. After I pulled up the stencil I went back with soapy detergent water to touch up the "H". This got most of the paint up, but the next day I went back with a watered-down bleach solution and touched up the area again. Thank goodness it's a white cardigan!
Once the back of the cardigan in done and completely dry, flip it over to add the "Bride", use the same process.
There you have it, a fun & glittery Bridal cardigan!
I love giving a Bride personalized gifts for her special day.
It's fun to have all the attention on you!
Have a great day!

Modge Podge Glitter Wine Glass
Morning! How's everyone's day?
Here's a fun & easy Bachelorette craft for you:
To celebrate my friend's Bachelorette Party, we visited Dahlonega, GA for wine tasting!
I wanted the Bride to stand out, so I made her a Glitter Wine Glass.
What you'll need:
wine glass - $1 from Dollar Store
Modge Podge
Glitter
Bedazzled Letters - leftover from another project
Foam Brush
Step 1: clean your wine glass and allow to fully dry.
Step 2: spell out "BRIDE" in bedazzled letters.
I taped on painters tape to my wine glass so that I would have a level line to follow. The bedazzled letters I used are meant to be ironed-on, but that won't work for this project. Apply the letters with Modge Podge, try not to be too messy because the dried Modge Podge will show up on the glass.
Step 3: once the letters have adhered to the glass, peel off the plastic backing.
Step 4: Modge Podge on glitter!
I added glitter on the bottom half of the wine glass. I did not put any on the stem, I was afraid that it would rub off when the Bride was drinking out of it. Also, I didn't put glitter along the top rim of the glass, I didn't want the Bride to accidentally drink glitter ;)
Cover the area you want to glitter in Modge Podge. Then sprinkle on a light coat of glitter. Allow to dry. Then cover the same area in more Modge Podge and sprinkle again with glitter. Once it is dry, try to brush off an excess glitter. Finally, cover the glitter area in another coat (or 2) of Modge Podge; this will seal in all the glitter.
Now it's time to enjoy some wine with the Bride!
