Year in Review

Another awesome year has flown by!! Thank you to all of our readers who continue to support us and our blog! When we started Southern Color our goal was to inspire others and to give them the confidence to DIY.  We hope you find our tutorials easy to follow and eventually try them out.

We were pretty busy in 2013 so we want to take some time to revisit all of the projects we completed.

Christmas Cookie Exchange

Julia and I hosted our first cookie exchange party this weekend!  And we'd like to think it was a huge success ;)  We had 15 friends over with tons of yummy cookies and holiday cocktails.

Our decorating theme for the party was turquoise and red.
We created a cookie banner using our trusty Silhouette.

Holiday Cocktails: Frosty's Frothy Cocoa & Santa's Spiked Cider

The Christmas season has officially begun!  This weekend we are hosting our very first cookie exchange party!  We can't wait to gather with friends and taste yummy cookies.  Stop by next week for a full recap.

To us, Christmas isn't just about December 25th, it's also about the weeks leading up to it!  We love gathering with friends and family during this time; we're either watching Christmas movies, decorating sugar cookies, competing for best gingerbread house,  listening to our Mom perform in the church's Christmas cantata, or visiting our Dad at the Santa House.

And now that our family is all adults we also enjoy sipping on holiday cocktails!  Today we are sharing with you our holiday cocktails that were featured in Southern Holiday Life's 2013 edition, Frosty's Frothy Cocoa and Santa's Spiked Cider.

DIY Burlap Monogrammed Koozies

Koozies seem to be all the craze for weddings nowadays!  And I'm not going to lie...I had them at my wedding. So we decided to have them at our brother's rehearsal dinner/welcome party too - I mean who wants their hand to get cold while drinking a beer.  Instead of buying more koozies we decided to recover some of the ones we already had - a girl can only have so many koozies.

This project was so easy and didn't take long at all to complete...but that might have to do with the fact that we had three people working on it - hehe.

Project idea from Strictly Homemade

Instructions:

Step 1: Cut out your burlap - make it one inch wider and one inch longer than your koozie

Step 2: Iron the edges of the burlap under so you have a clean line that won't fray

Step3: Align stencil in center of burlap and fill in with a sharpie

Step 4: Hot glue burlap to koozie

For all of you crafters out there that own a Silhouette - please don't laugh at us!  We have to make our stencils the old fashion way with paper and an exacto knife...frowny face.
Silhouette - if you're listening - we would be happy to take any extra Silhouette Cameos off of your hands!!!

The koozies turned out perfect and they were another way to personalize the party!!
