Homemade Jewlery Display Board

What a weekend!  I can't believe it's already Monday!
My weekend was jam packed with dinner at Seasons 52, drinks with friends at Fado, crafting with my sister, walks with Lilly, house party with Willy's catering and time with the BF.

Did anyone watch Once Upon a Time last night?  I am slowly falling out of love with this show.  There are so many characters and story lines, it's impossible to keep up with or get invested in anyone.  What do you think is going to happen with Bell and Rumpelstiltskin?

Time for a craft!

I am one lucky girl and over the holidays I received several beautiful necklaces as Christmas gifts.  I love the trend of large statement necklaces and my collection is ever-growing.  I wanted a way to display my necklaces so that they wouldn't get tangled together and so that I could see what I have.

I made a Homemade Jewelry Display Board and hung it in my closet.  Now when I'm getting dressed in the morning I can see what necklace will coordinate with my outfit!

I bought this framed corkboard at TJ Maxx for $30.  Pick a size that will accommodate your jewelry collection.  I wanted something large enough that I could "grow" into.

I also bought 8 glass knobs at TJ Maxx for $16.  These are the same knobs you would use for drawers and cabinets.

You are going to screw your knobs through the cork board.  Check the length of the screw on your knob, if it is much longer than the width of the corkboard, you will need to cut it down.

My Dad helped me with cutting down the knobs.  Measure the width you need and then saw off the extra.  We clamped the knob to a sturdy table and then my Dad used a hand saw to cut off the extra.

Lay out your knobs in the position you want them.
My Jewelry Board will hang portrait style, but you could do it landscape.  Just keep in mind what necklaces you will be hanging and how long or short they are.

Mark (with a pencil) where the knob will be screwed in.  Use an electric drill to drill a pilot whole.  You will want the drill bit to be a little smaller than the actually knob's screw (mine were 3/16).  Drill in all your pilot holes, then screw in the knobs.

You will use washers and nuts to secure the knob to the corkboard.  I used one washer on the front of the corkboard and then a washer and two nuts on the back of the corkboard.

Once your knobs are secure to the corkboard you will need to cover the screw & nuts so that they don't scratch your wall.

I used leftover batting and packing tape.  Cut a square piece of batting large enough to the cover the nut & screw, then tape.

The back won't look pretty, but no one should be looking at that anyways ;)

Hang on the wall!

I am so happy with how the Jewelry Display Board turned out.
It's so fun to get ready in the morning and coordinate my outfits with necklaces.

I still have a few empty spaces on my board, I plan to add some small hooks in those areas so that I can hang bracelets and smaller necklaces.

To organize my earrings, I hang them here:

*  Replace the center of the frame with plastic mesh *

How do you organize your jewelry?
