Signing off...

Hi Southern Color readers!
We wanted to update you on our plans for the blog.  Over the past few years we have really enjoyed sharing our lives with you and our projects.  DIY is a true passion of ours and something we will always be doing & loving.  However, we have made the decision to step away from blogging.  Blogging is a true labor of love, it takes a lot of work to create our projects, photograph them, type up the tutorials and share them on social media.   We are choosing to focus more on our everyday lives, family and friends.

We appreciate you following along in our blogging journey.  And who knows, we might be back.  If anything, please keep following our Instragram page, we will be posting on there regularly.  But I can't promise it will be DIY ~ we've kind of become obsessed with our pups ;)

Southern Color is signing off for now...

Brass Lamp Makeover

Can I make a confession?  I am obsessed with lamps!

I have been on the search for the perfect lamps for my bedroom after an unfortunate event.  During my move from Nashville to Atlanta, my favorite pair of mercury lamps broke.  Even now, almost two years later, it brings tears to my eyes thinking about it.

They were my favorite!!

But I've finally found a replacement for them...old brass lamps my mother had in her donation pile.

I know, I know - you're probably thinking I'm crazy but trust me on this one.  With a little bit of silver leafing paint I was able to transform these outdated lamps into some amazing.

DIY Bookshelves for the Office Makeover

The office makeover was a wonderful learning process for us.  The bookshelves are a custom piece we designed ourselves based on the dimensions of the room.  We did tons of research on Ana White and Sawdust Girl and from their plans we created something that would work for our needs.  One of our favorite features of the bookshelves is the adjustable shelving we created using the Kreg Shelf Pin Jig!

What did y'all think of the Office Makeover last week?  We hope the project inspired you to take on a challenge and step out of your comfort zone.  This was the first stenciled wall we have completed and we can't tell you enough how easy it was.  The graphic design adds so much interest to the office and we love that it's an affordable project (albeit a little time consuming!).  Today we have some exciting news for our readers, we'll be giving away a Royal Design Studio Stencil to one of you (valued at $50 or less)!

We've been working really hard on this project - many weekends dedicated to building the built-in shelves and painting the stenciled wall.  The final product is exactly what we had imagined and we couldn't be happier! Plus Southern Color gained a new team member along the way...check Molly out below.

New Interior Design Project | Office Makeover

Good morning!
Julia and I have been hard at work making over a room in our parent's home.  Now that us kids are grown, our childhood rooms are being used for other purposes.  For this project we transformed our brother's childhood room into our parent's home office!

The inspiration for this room came from Royal Design Studio's Elsabet Stencil.  A large graphic design like this can completely change the look and feel of a space on a small budget.  Large stencils like these range in price from $30 - $60.  We chose to stencil the wall you see when you walk into the office, directly across from the door, to create the largest impact.

Another show stopper piece in this room is the built in bookcases.  Julia and I have really been wanting to DIY a project like this.  We researched many plans from Ana White to Sawdust Girl, but in the end we developed our own plans inspired by the compilation of different pieces.  We decided to have one large hanging book shelf suspended from the ceiling and above the desktop work surface by 2 ft.

We are planning to decorate and accessorize the room with items our parents already have but we'll still  need to purchase a few things to tie everything together.  Here are some of the products we used for the makeover.

Wall Color: Behr Sandstone Cliff
Back of Bookcases: Behr Tasmanian Sea Turquoise
Stencil Highlight Color: Behr Ivory Mist
Office Accessories: Red Baskets from the Dollar Store
Accent Chairs: Red Leather Chairs from Costco
Built-In Bookcase: Pure Bond Birch Plywood
Built-In Paint Color:  Behr White Trim Paint

Stop by in a few weeks for all the project details and the reveal!
