Me vs. Daylight Savings Time

Another great weekend has flown by way TOO fast!!  I think we should have been allowed to come into work one hour later today - I mean we lost a whole hour of our weekend yesterday!

Did anyone see my facebook post on Friday night?

I had the most amazing cocktail ever and it was only 106 calories!  The BF and I had dinner at Big Ketch, a casual seafood restaurant in Buckhead.  Lucky for us we had a $25 gift card I got in my goodie bag at the Dry Bar opening party.  The fish was fresh and the service was great.  But back to the cocktail, it was vodka, grapefruit juice, muddled basil and lime juice = perfection!

I was busy this weekend crafting.  My apartment yesterday was a disaster!  There was fabric and paint everywhere.

Yes - that is Ric Rac, you probably haven't seen it since 1984 but I promise the finished product looks great!

You know my love of burlap, I just can't get enough of the stuff!

Any guesses on what I'm making??

Friday Faves.... Atlanta Restaurants

Happy Friday!
I am looking forward to a weekend spent with the BF, family and friends.  My future sister-in-law has a shower on Saturday- the theme is super cute, each person is assigned one of the couples favorite movies and your gift has to correspond with its theme.  My movie is "Fools Rush In" - with Matthew Perry and Salma Hayek. My gift might be a stretch, but hopefully it's stuff they want!

This Friday Faves I decided to feature Atlanta Restaurants.  Atlanta is full of tons of great restaurants in neighborhoods all over the city.  If you want a more complete list check out my Yelp page!

Known for their game and southern inspired dishes.  The restaurant overlooks the Chattahoochee River.

Contemporary vibe with a delicious cocktail menu.  Best known for their Salmon Chips.

My neighborhood mexican cantina.  Great taco list and terrific patio!

Upstairs patio features a smaller menu and live music.

Casual patio restaurant that serves a great brunch and dinner ~ try the White Peach Mimosa!

Wisteria
Located in the trendy neighborhood of Inman Park, their menu is southern inspired.  The Pimento Cheese deviled eggs are amazing!

My mouth is watering!  Have a nice weekend!

Palace Cafe Crabmeat Cheescake Recipe...yummo

This might be my new favorite dish!  It is absolutely amazing!

Serves 8

Ingredients:

Pecan Crust
¾ C - Pecans
1 C - All-purpose flour
¼ T - Salt
5 T - Butter, cold
3 T - Ice water

Filling
½ C - Onion, small diced
1 T - Butter
4 oz - Crabmeat
8 oz - Cream cheese, room temperature
⅓ C - Creole cream cheese or sour cream
2 ea - Eggs
1 T - Hot pepper sauce (we use Crystal hot sauce in this recipe)
Kosher salt and white pepper to taste

Meunière Sauce
1 ea - Lemon, peeled and quartered
½ C - Worcestershire sauce
½ C - Hot pepper sauce
¼ C - Heavy whipping cream
1 lb - Butter, cold, cut into small cubes
Kosher salt and white pepper to taste

Garnish
2 C - Sliced, mixed wild mushrooms
3 T - Butter, softened
24 ea - Crab claw fingers
Kosher salt and cracked black pepper to taste

Preparing the Pecan Crust
Preheat oven to 350°. Finely grind pecans in a food processor. Add flour and salt. Mix well. Transfer to a large mixing bowl and cut in butter, working butter into flour with two knives until dough is in crumbs the size of small peas. Add ice water and evenly incorporate into the mixture, which should remain fairly crumbly. Roll out dough to an 1/8" thickness on a lightly floured surface. Press dough into a lightly greased 9" tart pan, starting with the sides and then the bottom. Bake crust for 20 minutes, or until golden. Note: Dough can be made ahead of time. If doing so, wrap dough tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate. Allow dough to come to room temperature before rolling out.

Preparing the Filling
Sauté onion in butter until translucent. Add crabmeat and cook just until heated through, then remove from heat. Blend cream cheese until smooth in a mixer fitted with a paddle, or by hand using a wooden spoon. Add Creole cream cheese and mix well. Mix in eggs one at a time. Gently fold in crabmeat mixture. Stir in hot sauce and season to taste with salt and white pepper. Spoon filling into prepared crust. Bake at 300° for 30-40 minutes, or until firm to the touch.

Preparing the Meunière Sauce and Garnish
Combine lemon, Worcestershire sauce and hot sauce in a heavy saucepot. Reduce over medium heat, stirring constantly with a wire whisk until mixture becomes thick and syrupy. Whisk in heavy whipping cream. Reduce heat to low and slowly blend in butter one cube at a time, adding additional butter only after previously added butter has completely incorporated into the sauce. This process is called “mounting the butter." Remove from heat and continue to stir. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Strain through a fine strainer and keep warm. Sauté mushrooms in 2T butter until tender and all moisture has cooked off. Excess water from the mushrooms may break your sauce if it isn’t cooked off. Stir mushrooms into meunière sauce. Melt 1T butter in a sauté pan and warm crab claws over low heat.

To serve
Slice cheesecake and top each piece with warm meunière sauce and three crab claws.

This recipe sounds pretty difficult but it would be perfect for a special occasion!

Happy Thursday!

DIY Bride Jacket

The other weekend we went to New Orleans to celebrate my brother's fiance's Bachelorette Party.  We had a terrific weekend exploring NOLA and eating delicious food!  The city was still recovering from Mardi Gras, beads were hanging in the trees and on telephone lines, trash lined the streets, and their was a very potent smell to the city!

We stayed at the Renaissance Pere Marquette hotel and I would definitely recommend it.  The price was right, the rooms were nice and the location was perfect (a few blocks to Bourbon Street).

The weather was a bit windy, so the Bride jacket was perfect!

I got all the supplies from Wal-Mart:

White Fleece Jacket ~ $12
Iron On Bedazzled Letters ~ $8
Bedazzled Crown ~ $5

To start: wash & dry your jacket.  Then lay out the lettering in the design you want it.  Once you have a design you like, peel off the back and stick the letter to the jacket.  Flip the jacket inside out and iron.

I tied on Silver Ribbon bows to all the zippers- just for an additional bling.

I love that the jacket is personalized for Trish!  She can wear it the day of her wedding when she has hair & makeup done since it zips up in the front.

Friday Faves - Wedding Edition

Burlap and Mason Jars - the perfect combination for a rehearsal dinner at the beach.

Our brother and his fiance will be getting married in Tybee Island, GA at the end of March.  We are all very excited and are busy planning the Rehearsal Dinner.  The party will be outside so we've decided to go with a burlap and mason jar theme - we have a ton of ideas - but here are some of our favorites!

Check back with us the first week of April to see how the Rehearsal Dinner turns out!

Have a great weekend!
