Burlap is my new favorite fabric! It's so CHEAP!!! So we tried to use it as much as we could for the Welcome Party.
One of the biggest challenges we faced with the Welcome Party was the fact that none of us had seen the space. We didn't know if there would be seating for everyone or if people would have to sit on the ground. So we came prepared with picnic blankets and pillows - luckily we had plenty of seats but the pillows still added a nice touch. And they were a twofer - they were practical and sentimental. (Definition: A twofer is an item that gives you two things according to Jessica Simpson on NBC's the Fashion Star) Each pillow had a special meaning for the couple - the state they met and live in, their initials and they're favorite quotes.
Instructions:
Step 1: Cut fabric (our dimensions were 21x21)
Step 2: Paint on stencil
Step 3: Buy or sew pillow inserts
(Pillow inserts are a must - otherwise you'll have stuffing coming through the little holes in the burlap. I used old pillows for our inserts.)
Step 4: Sew burlap fabric around pillow inserts leaving 1/2 seam on each side
Step 5: Pull loose burlap strands to fray edges of pillow
I just want to reiterate how AWESOME it would be to have a Silhouette Cameo!!! The majority of the time spent on this project was cutting out the stencils with an exacto knife.
Alright....I promise I'm done begging for a Silhouette Cameo! Even with our homemade stencils these pillows turned out awesome and each one means something special to the newlyweds...love it!
