Let's talk about food!

Happy Friday everyone!  I'm traveling to Nashville today ~ tomorrow is the 1/2 Marathon!  I'm both super excited and super nervous.  Let's talk about something else so I don't get too stressed out, FOOD!
This is a fun quiz I stole from Carol and Lee....

Coke or Pepsi? I don't drink soda anymore, but I'll always choose Coke - it's a GA thing!
Lemonade or Fruit Punch? What about an Arnold Palmer - sweet tea & lemonade :-)
Caramel apple or Cotton Candy?  Caramel apple, I'm still day dreaming about my crepe
Butterfinger or Snickers? Snickers - even better, a Snickers ice cream bar
Pudding or Jell-o? Pudding - who remembers dirt pudding growing up?
Turkey or Chicken?  Turkey on a sandwich and chicken as a meal
American or Provolone cheese? Pepper Jack - I like cheese with a kick!
Crackers or Cookies? Crackers
Pretzels or Chips? Chips -
Kettle Jalapeno chips

Mexican food or Japanese food?  Absolutely Mexican!
Chinese food or Italian food? Italian - I'm loving Valenza in Brookhaven right now
Pie or Cake? Icecream cake or the BF's famous pumpkin pie

Ice cream or Cookies? Icecream - preferably Menchies
Pasta or Pizza? Pizza
Soda or Juice? does orange juice in a mimosa count?
Chocolate bars or Chocolate truffles? Truffles!
Apples or Bananas? Bananas - I have one each morning.  But I'm on a green apple kick right now, I have one for lunch each day.
Salad or Soup? Salad
Cauliflower or Broccoli? Broccoli
Onion Rings or French Fries? Fries
Blizzard or McFlurry? Oreo Blizzard all the time!
Fried or Poached eggs? Poached egg for eggs benedict

How to Prep for Your Race

I love having plans and a race day is no different!  I think it is important to know as much as you can about a race you will be participating in.  Check out their website, read the rules, know when & where you need to be.  The last thing you want on race day is the stress of not knowing what to do!

My plan for this weekend is:
1.  Arrive in Nashville Friday afternoon and go to the Expo with Julia
2.  Get our race numbers and find out where my corral meets
3.  Learn more about the Pace Groups
4.  Rest my legs
5.  Eat a healthy dinner - stick with something you know your body likes
6.  Get plenty of sleep
7.  Wake up early
8.  Enjoy coffee & breakfast
10.  Jog & stretch
11.  Join my corral
12.  START

Best of luck to everyone participating in the Nashville Marathon and 1/2 Marathon!

The party never stops!

This past weekend we celebrated my brother and his wife with a Crepe Shower!  They got married a few weeks ago at an intimate ceremony in Tybee Island.  In May they are having a huge party in Chicago.  So we are literally celebrating for a 1.5 months ~ the party never stops!!

I mentioned awhile ago that this is my favorite type of shower and it still is!  I had 2 savory crepes and 1 dessert crepe.  I would have tried more but I ran out of time ;-)

The shower was given by close family friends.  The weather was perfect, the food was yummy, the company was great and the drinks were flowing!

I had the Mexican crepe and the Raspberry/Chipotle Chicken crepe.  My fave was the Chipotle chicken, the flavor was so unique, both sweet & spicy!  For dessert I had a combo of caramel apple & nutella with strawberries, A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!  I need to learn how to make crepes or hire a live in crepe maker ;-)

Have you ever had a crepe?  What are your favorite toppings?

Fuel

Eating the right types of food is so important for a good run!  I typically go for a run after work when I've had a chance to fuel my body all day long.  During a typical day I eat: chai tea, oatmeal, banana, turkey sandwich, green apple and plenty of water.  For me timing is everything, if I eat to close to a run, then I'll cramp up.

Race days are a completely different story.  I wake up early for a race and have not had an entire day to fuel.  What works for me is 1 cup of coffee (with sugar and a tiny splash of milk) and 1/2 a banana.  I try to have breakfast at least 1 hr before my run.

This past weekend I tried eating a Luna bar before my Sunday run.  I had the Nuts 'n Cranberry bar - it tasted really good.  However, after waiting over 1 hour to go for run after eating the bar, I still could feel it in my tummy as I ran.  I was not happy :-(  Everyone's body is different and the fact that it didn't agree with me might have more to do with the 4 glasses of wine I had the night before!

Speaking of bars: I love Larabars!! I am so excited to check out the expo on Friday and hopefully score some free samples!!

How do you fuel your body?

Running Gear

Having the right gear is so important for a good run.  You don't want to be worried about something sliding around, being uncomfortable, not fitting correctly, etc. - You have better things to think about during your run!

Here are the clothes I wear for a run:

Spi Belt
A carrier case that fits around your waist with adjustable straps.  The mesh pocket is stretchy and allows you to fit a ton of stuff: iPhone, keys, chapstick.
The belt is pretty comfortable, I strapped it around my waist and under my shirt.  There wasn't alot of movement, which I was worried about.  I still need to figure out the tight-ness of the belt, at certain points during my run it was a little uncomfortable.  But overall I recommend it, I think it's important for us ladies to have a phone with us on runs, you never know!

Ever since I got in to running 3 years ago I have worn Brooks running shoes.  The fit good and they are light weight.  I highly recommend checking out your local Big Peach Running Company to find the right shoe.

Who would have thought Old Navy would have good Bras!  I love these adjustable strap sports bras, they are comfortable and provide plenty of support.

Champion Capris
I wear these capris for everything - Spinning, Yoga, Walking, Running - they are so comfortable.
Champion Athletic Tank
This tank is a lightweight mesh material with more of a loose fit.  I don't like built-in bras or super tight tanks so this is perfect for me!
MapMyRun
I love this app - thanks Christina for telling me about it!  The app tracks your route and gives you updates every mile.  It scared me at first when all of the sudden my Spi-Belt was talking to me saying, "1 mile completed, 11 minutes 3 seconds".

I also wear a baseball hat on my runs.  This keeps my hair out of my face and the sun out of my eyes.

What is some of your favorite running gear?

Happy Running!

Wine Down Wednesdays.... Sip Wine

Last night I went out to dinner at Sip Wine in Vinings.  I have been wanting to go here since they opened 2 years ago.  I finally had the perfect excuse, girl's night

Sip has a cool concept: there are wine "vending machines" where you can serve yourself a sip, half glass, or full glass.  The idea is to sample many different wines.  A sip averages $2, 1/2 glass about $4 and a full is $8.

(Thanks for modeling Lauren!)

The idea is great, but the wine I wanted to try was empty and even though it was a Wednesday special on their menu, Sip would not honor the $5 special price instead I would have to pay $8.75 to get it out of the machine.  Kind of lame if you ask me!  I'll probably go back to give the wine machines a 2nd chance.  I also think this could be a fun date night, hint hint!!

I finally got a glass of wine from our server, I had the Zenato Pinot Grigio - it was very light & refreshing.  Sip offers a tapas style menu, most plates average $10.  To start I had the Apple Salad with pecans & blue cheese - yum!!

Others had the Soba Noodle Peanut Salad, Chicken Skewers, Tuna Tartare, Crawfish Beignets, and Scallops.

The food was great and the vibe was really cool!

The service was average - there were times I was waiting to order another glass of wine, more tapas and get more water.   But I don't think I'll let that prevent me from going back.

I love the candles they had on the tables!  I totally want to try to make this, Pinterest can you help me out?!?!

Shhh...it's a secret

Please don't laugh at me...I'm about to share a deep dark secret.

This is our living room and dining room.  I know pathetic!  These rooms have definitely been neglected since we moved in two years ago.  But please keep in mine that this is our first home and we had a small two bedroom town home before this.  Now we have a four bedroom home with two living and dining areas...a big upgrade from our old place.  The kitchen and den looked great but we just haven't figured out what to do with these rooms yet.  Also,  there is a chance that we will be moving in a year for my husband's job so I've been putting off decorating this room until we find out whether or not we are staying in Nashville.  December 5, 2012 is the big date...we find out where were going for fellowship!

Don't you love the plaid sofas!
Instead of leaving this room empty we decided to put our old furniture in it.  When we got our dog, Lilly, 3 years ago she decided to eat the sofas while she was teething. So he sofas are in pretty rough shape.

Here are my inspirations for the living room:

Here are my inspirations for the dining room:

As soon we find out we are staying here (fingers crossed) the decorating will begin!!

Do you have a room in your house that your embarrassed about?

Photo dump

Hi all! I've been a little MIA lately - life has been so busy.  I've been out of town every other weekend, there's just no time to be crafty!  Plus I'm really trying to focus my free time on training for the Nashville 1/2.  I'm looking forward to the end of May when life will calm down.  Now don't get me wrong, I love spending time with my family and friends, but it leaves little time for blogging!

Here's my life the last few weeks through iPhone:
