The Ultimate Handmade Baby Gift: Part 1

One of the very first post on this blog was about a baby gift for my nephew.  Since it was one of my first blog post I didn't have step by step instructions....I was still learning.  Well, I recently made another baby gift for a close friend who is expecting her first on Halloween.  And this time I took tons of pictures as I made the gift...yay!  Over the next three weeks I am going to share different items from the gift - get excited!

Today I'll show you how to make a decorative portable wipe case.

Materials Needed:
Huggies Baby Wipes - travel size
1/4 yard of fabric
1 sheet of felt
ribbon - wide (1/2 inch wide) and thin (3/8 inch wide)
hot glue

Step 1: Cut out felt the exact size of the huggies case (trace the case onto the felt).  Cut out fabric an 1/2-1 inch bigger than the wipe case.  You will need felt and fabric for the top and bottom of the case so you will have 2 pieces of fabric and 2 pieces of felt.

Step 2: Hot glue the felt to the top and bottom of the wipe case.  You will cover up the small lid on the top of the case.

Step 3: Hot glue the fabric on top of the felt.

Step 4: Hot glue the fabric to the sides of the wipe case but make sure you can still open the case.

Step 5: Remove excess fabric on the corners of the case.

Step 6: Hot glue the wide fabric across the front of the case.  I put mine kind of in the middle of the case.

Step 7:  Hot glue a decorative bow or button to the right side of the wide ribbon.

Step 8:  Hot glue the thin ribbon arround the edge of the wipe case (on top and bottom).  This will cover up the ends of the cut fabric and make the item look more professional.  Start and end in the back of the case - fold the ribbon over for a clean look.

Step 9: Clean up and discard all of the hot glue strings.

Step 10: You're DONE!!
All mommy's will love this cute wipe case!  It's a great addition to any diaper bag!
Plus it's pretty easy to do yourself and doesn't take a lot of time.

Come back next week to see how to make a portable changing pad.

  2. Super cute! I'm in the middle of making a diaper bag for a pregnant friend, so maybe I'll take some of my extra fabric and do this. Thanks for sharing at The Fun In Functional!
