Is it bad that sometimes I would rather be at home working on craft projects than at work??! When can I make this crafting/blogging thing a fulltime job ;-)
I chose a lime green zebra fabric and a graphic orange fabric to make pillows out of. I have 9 pillows total, so I am doing 6 green and 3 orange. The first step for these pillows was learning how to make single bias welt cording. I found a terrific tutorial on Living Savvy.
I decided to do a contrasting color for my cording. So for the green pillows I did orange cording and the orange pillows I did green cording.
I am going to show you how I did the orange cording. I needed a lot of it - 110 inches for each pillow or 660 inches for 6 pillows. So these measurements create a lot. You can easily scale down the size for a smaller project.
Start by cutting a 44 by 44 inch square.

Fold the square into a triangle and cut down the fold (your bias).
Now you have 2 triangles. Lay them right side to each other and sew them together.
Lay the fabric out. Now you will need to draw your cutting lines. I did 2 inch strips.
Fold the ends back in so that the lines match up. You will have a "tail" on either end. Now sew the ends together.
You will now have a loop of fabric.
With one of the tails, start cutting. You will cut a continuous piece of fabric that is 2 inches wide.
Cut the large strip of fabric down into usuable pieces. For me, I did 110 inches for the size of my pillow - leave a little extra for over hang.
Fold the fabric in half and iron.
Press the cording into the crease and pin.
Use your zipper foot to sew the cording and fabric together.
And there you go - you have single bias welt cording.
